About Me

I live at Gembrook with my wife, Margie and our two boys, Jack and Joe.  Gembrook is located on the southern foothills of the Great Dividing Range in Victoria. We are fortunate to live close by to Bunyip State Park, a relatively large area (16,600 ha) of wet forest and heathland.

I’m interested in visiting remote and wild places.  Being in the wilderness offers a sense of adventure, an opportunity to test oneself against nature and revitalize the spirit.  It is hard to beat the rigors’ and self reliance of backpacking into rugged bush surrounded by amazing scenery.

I also have a passion for wildlife photography, in particular wild deer. Although deer are not native to Australia I find them an interesting and fascinating animal.

I took up sea kayaking in 2004 after thinking about it for many years. After joining the sea kayak club and learning a few important skills I was able to explore parts of our wonderful coastline. Paddling a small craft on the blue water is challenging and exciting. My favourite type of paddling was to do expeditions to remote beaches and islands. I was soon to realise that with adventure came risk, something that I’m more careful about these days.

Margie and myself plan to do more overnight hikes in the near future. We have so many great places to visit in Victoria. My favourite parks are the Alpine National Park, Wilsons Promontory National Park and Grampians National Park.
